At the full councill meeting on Tuesday 21st. July, a petition under the banner os "20 Is Plenty" was presented to the Mayor by a local resident. The petition, which received 382 signatures from the people who live along Stanpit is in line with the recommendations from the "Stanpit & Fishermans Bank Conservation Area Appraisal & Management Plan" which was adopted by Christchurch Borough Council on the 21st. May 2008.
The Management Plan suggests that a 20 mph speed limit be imposed along Stanpit and also shows concern about the damage to properties along the road which are suffering from the vibrations caused by current traffic levels.

Previous Priorities PDF Print E-mail
From public meeting during September 2008, the PACT panel took away the following priorities

Priority 1 - Cycling on the Pavements (especially at Purewell crossroads and Normandy Drive, at Mudeford Lane and by Stoney Lane traffic lights)........................
Posters have been put in place in order to highlight that this is regarded as an offence. Furthermore, a number of tickets have been issued to offenders. We are now in the process of ordering new large triangle cycle posters warning of the fines for the pavement offences.

Priority 2 - Speeding traffic (especially in Somerford Road, Pauntley Road, on the corner of Sandown & Mudeford Lane, Normandy Drive).....................
Various speed checks have been carried out by Safer Neighbourhood Officers in these problem areas. Warnings and fines were issued to anyone speeding and this will be an ongoing issue with speed checks continuing to be carried out. The traffic calming system in Stanpit has also worked well with any speed checks done in this area showing that motorists were within the speed limits.....................................

Priority 3 - Anti-social behaviour (especially at Purewell Meadows via Marabout Close, off Burton Road, the skate park at Two Riversmeet leisure centre and Stanpit Marsh).
Persistent and ongoing high visibility patrols by the Local Safer Neighbourhood Team have eradicated most of the anti-social behaviour in these problem areas. Extra patrols by car, cycling and on foot will continue to be carried out in these areas.

Four days after the clean up PDF Print E-mail
Just four days after the community clean up, Burton Road is once again littered with detritus. This is sole destroying for all the good people who put so much time and effort into cleaning up the area last Saturday. The hedgerows along Burton Road are littered with newspaper pages and what looks like lager cans. Why is it that some people delight in destroying things. The bus shelter on Purewell Cross Road has been completely smashed up again by some mindless scroats. The bus shelter is mainly used by the elderley residents of this area to go to and from the medical center, so once again these people have to get wet through whilst waiting for the bus.

PACT Street Corner Meeting PDF Print E-mail
The fortnightly Street Corner meeting will take place on Purewell Round about on Friday 31st. July.

The police trailer will be there from 16:00 to 20:30, so call in and see PCSO Martin Sparks and the PACT Chairman. You don't have to make an appointment, just come and see us.

Purewell & Stanpit

  • Stanpit-Purewell >> PACT Priorities

Current Priorities for Purewell and Stanpit, as of March 2009:

Priority 1 - Litter (especially in Purewell Meadows, Burton Road, Purewell by the shops, Normandy Drive and around Purewell Cross Roundabout)............
Community Litter Pick organised by PCSO Martin Sparks is scheduled for Saturday 25th. July, and will clean up Burton Road, Purewell Meadows, Purewell Cross Road, Purewell, Livingstone Road and surrounding area.

Priority 2 - Vandalism (especially in Victoria Road, Pauntley Road and Stanpit area)........ Most of the vandalism was being carried out after the local drinking establishment were closing. The PACT Chaiman wrote to every drinking Establishment in the ward to make them aware of what is happening, and to help us to curb the vandalism.

Priority 3 - Cycle Lanes in the whole area of Purewell and Stanpit .............. CBC were contacted about the possibility of adding cycle lanes to Stanpit. The response was negative for the reason that it was considered that Stanpit is already a very narrow road with extremely narrow pavements, and there is not enough space to add cycle lane.
